The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County has awarded the contract to install over 7000 feet of sewer lines to extend service near Baltzer Meyer Road and Fort Allen Elementary in Hempfield. The Trib reports that the contract with W.A. Petrakis out of Penn Township is worth at least $479,000, and will take six months. The extension will bring service to seven homes and farm fields that could see future development. Legal delays prompted by lawsuits filed by property owners challenging the authority’s efforts to condemn land needed for the extension led to the project being put on hold since 2020.
