Westmoreland County Detectives have been asked by the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg to investigate what the Diocese believes is a potential conspiracy to hide the criminal record of a now-former Irwin Parish cemetery employee. The Trib reports that the matter is an ongoing investigation into 47-year-old Shon Harrity. He was arrested on May 8th by North Huntingdon Police on charges of sexually assaulting a girl for two years. While the charges are unrelated to his duties for the Church, diocesean officials discovered he had a criminal record that goes back to the early 2000’s including guilty pleas of indecent exposure, open lewdness, obscene disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. In a statement, Bishop Larry Kulick said he was disappointed the system to prevent something like this failed and was angered that Harrity was allowed to be employed in the diocese.
