A project to ease flooding concerns in Jeannette is set to get off the ground early next year. The Trib reports that the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County board formally accepted two low-interest 40-year loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to pay for a $14.3 million flooding containment project that will remove stormwater catch basins in the city’s sewer systemand the realignment and size increase of sewer pipes along Chambers Avenue. The project is expected to also involve the redesign and consolidation of the city’s sewer lines that handle both sewage and stormwater and increase capacity of the system’s sewer treatment plant in Penn.Flooding and sewer backups for years impacted properties on several streets in West Jeannette, according to city officials.
