Two suspected tornadoes came through the county last night, causing power outages and widespread damage. The Trib reports that Westmoreland County 911 received nine homes hit by trees in a string of damage that stretched east from Trafford. Nearly 300 calls were reported during that time Penn Township was one of the hardest-hit areas, where firefighters responded when a tree fell on a pony on Pine Hollow Road Extension and other fallen trees blocked access on several roads, including Nature Lane.
The County Animal Response Team was called to assist with the injured pony, and the National Weather Service said a barn near Hannastown Road near Crabtree. PennDOT also reported their barn near the Turnpike in Penn Township was heavily damaged.
