Governor Josh Shapiro is joining a multi-state lawsuit against the Trump administration over recent cuts to the AmeriCorps program. The lawsuit argues that by essentially shutting the agency down, the administration is limiting states’ ability to provide funds to volunteer programs in their communities. The governor said AmeriCorps members serve their fellow Pennsylvanians every day by rebuilding communities after disasters, educating children, helping veterans and seniors, and keeping trails and water clean. AmeriCorps provides funds for volunteers who respond to local, state, and national challenges through service projects.
