Some deputies with the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office are suing the Pennsylvania State Police, claiming PSP has put them through “frivolous investigations”. One of the key incidents mentioned in the lawsuit happened in 2022 after deputies requested assistance from state police to serve warrants in Fayette County. Trooper Jeffrey Schaeffer asked for an investigation into those deputies around that time, claiming they “acted illegally” in making arrests. The deputies were cleared of any wrongdoing or policy violations at that time and after two other investigations that were reportedly prompted by Schaeffer. The lawsuit claims the trooper’s investigation requests were motivated by personal animosity.
