A report from the Philadelphia Inquirer shows that Penn State’s New Kensington Campus is on the shortlist for closures. According to the Trib, campuses in Dubois, Fayette, Mont Alto, Shenango, Wilkes-Barre and York are also on the list of those to close at the end of the 2026-27 academic year. Penn State issued a statement saying that it is “regrettable that our communities who may be impacted by campus closures are hearing information before a final decision.” The closures would have to be approved by the University’s board of trustees. Previously, university administrators had said that 12 of Penn State’s 19 campuses — including Beaver, Fayette, Greater Allegheny and New Kensington — could close because of declining enrollment, demographic shifts and finances.
