NORTH CAROLINA WOMAN EXTRADITED TO WESTMORELAND COUNTY FOR ONLINE SCAM

A North Carolina woman was extradited to Westmoreland County after she was arrested in connection with a case involving online extortion and theft.  The Trib reports that 29-year-old Sydney Marie Carlson of Raleigh, North Carolina was arrested by police in Franklin County North Carolina after an arrest warrant was filed in North Huntingdon.  The victim claimed he donated to what he believed was an online fundraiser for someone in need a heart transplant.  That lead him to start an online relationship with an adult performer on an erotic website who sent him nude photos and asked for further donations, eventually bilking him of nearly $24,000.  When he ran out of money, he was contacted by others claiming the nude photos were of children and threatened to expose him and made further financial demands.  Carlson is now being held in Westmoreland County prison with a preliminary hearing set for May 23rd.
