A hearing was held Wednesday concerning the Westmoreland County Register of Wills office where the staff claimed that the office was neglected by the elected office holder, Sherri Hamilton. The Trib reports that some members of the staff testified that sometimes, Hamilton would be in the office only nine hours out of the week, and that work backlogs are still prevalent in the office. Employees say that they are trying to train new employees and serve customers while continuing to reduce that backlog. A contempt of court finding could result in imposition of a fine or potentially a jail sentence for Hamilton. The judges could also appoint a conservator to oversee the office. A ruling will be issued at a later date.
