The mother of a Pennsylvania man currently serving time in a Russian prison camp has sued the U.S. Government to try to get her son home. KDKA-TV reports that Marc Fogel was taken into custody three years ago at a Russian Airport for having legally prescribed medical marijuana and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. His mother Malphine has now filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of State and secretary Anthony Blinken to have her son declared “wrongfully detained” in an effort to get him back to the U.S, and would entitle her to receive more information about her son. She compared his case with that of Brittany Griner, the WNBA star who the US negotiated a release with the Russian government.
