A mosquito sample taken in New Florence has tested positive for a rare disease. The Trib reports that the mosquito carried Jamestown Canyon virus, which is known to cause severe conditions, including infections of the brain and spinal cord. No reported cases have spread to humans in Westmoreland or Allegheny counties. So far this season, there have been no mosquitoes in Westmoreland County found to be carrying West Nile virus.
