Vice President Kamala Harris is rallying support from union workers in Pittsburgh by coming out against the proposed sale of U.S. Steel. While speaking at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers hall on the South Side yesterday, Harris said she would work to block the purchase proposal from Japanese firm Nippon Steel if elected to the White House. United Steelworkers President David McCall praised Harris for her stance on the deal, saying she has “made it clear she will always stand up for steelworkers”. Leaders with U.S. Steel have said the sale would benefit employees and shareholders and would “strengthen the American steel industry”. Former President Trump has also promised to block the deal if he is re-elected.
