The Plum Municipal Authority is planning to color code all of the community’s fire hydrants. The work is being done so firefighters can be sure of the flow rate at each of the hydrants when responding to an emergency. The top and end caps will be painted red, orange, green, or blue based on a flow rate color standard set by the National Fire Protection Association. Local emergency officials raised concerns about the hydrants when they found they did not have enough water while responding to the Rustic Ridge house explosion in August of last year.
