Township supervisors in Unity are planning to revisit the local ordinance that puts strict guidelines on the use of ATV’s on private land. The current rules only allow landowners to use the vehicles on properties that are over 50 acres and there are noise level guidelines in place. Last week, the board of supervisors rejected an ordinance proposed by a resident that would have loosened some of those restrictions. Township Solicitor Gary Falatovich has suggested drafting new guidelines from scratch and considering some of the changes that the resident pitched. Falatovich says township officials were trying to address a problem with large numbers of people using off-road vehicles in residential areas when they passed the initial ordinance. It was not their intention to restrict ATV usage for people who live on more rural sections of land, according to the solicitor.
