Officials say that demolition plans for the former State Correctional Facility in Hempfield Township are moving forward. The Trib reports that bids for the demolition could be sought by the end of the year. Officials also say that the demo could be completed in phases, depending on how much funding is awarded. The township purchased the former state prison in mid-2023 for $3.5 million with the intent of redeveloping the land. Early estimates are between $3.5 and $5 million for the demo job and it could take as long as a year.
