COMPRESSOR CATCHES FIRE AT GEORGE R. SWEENEY WATER PLANT

A Westmoreland County water plant is not in operation after a fire last night.  WTAE-TV reports that Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County is awaiting electricians to determine the extent of the damage of the fire at the George R. Sweeney water plant, which serves the northern portion of the MAWC’s service territory.  Westmoreland County 911 said that a compressor unit caught fire at the plant off Route 380 in Bell Township around 8:30 PM, and the fire was put out a half-hour later.
