A Glassport couple have been awarded a medal for their work to save the life of a Hempfield native in 2022 at the Yough River Lake Outflow. The Trib reports that Gayla and Guy Norelli spotted a fisherman, later identified as Jim Harrold, struggling to get up. Guy went in to help while Gayla got some nearby life rings. They were able to get him out of the water and perform some first aid to get him to breathe until help arrived. The Norellis were recognized Friday in Somerset County by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with a public service commendation medal for their heroism and courage to save Harrold’s life.
