The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County is boosting cybersecurity after hackers were able to use inside information to steal more than 800-thousand dollars this summer. MAWC Business Manager Brian Hohman says scammers got into their network system and monitored internal emails, allowing them to impersonate a vendor and draft a fraudulent invoice back in June. Since then, most of the money has been recovered and insurance claims have made up the difference. The authority has also partnered with a local company to make network security improvements and to train staff members on ways to recognize hacking attempts.
