The former Westmoreland County director of purchasing was arrested Tuesday on three counts of theft and one count of misapplication of entrusted property. The Trib reports that 47-year-old Kristopher Cardiff is accused of illegally altering the work schedule of department employees to extend their workday by an extra half hour. Doing that cost the county $9800 between August 2023 and 2024. The four unionized clerks involved were not disciplined, remained on the job and will not have to repay the money, officials have said.
