HEAD AND TORSO INJURIES WERE ELIZABETH POLLARD’S CAUSE OF DEATH

The woman who fell through a sinkhole in Unity Township died due to head and torso injuries suffered in the fall.  The Trib reports that Pollard was looking for her cat behind Monday’s Union Restaurant when the ground gave way and she fell about 30 feet through a sinkhole.  Her body was found about 12 feet away from the sinkhole.  Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson said there was no way of knowing whether she died during the fall or after it.  The State Department of Environmental Protection is working to stabilize and fill the sinkhole and mine subsidence site.
