More than half-a-million dollars in tourism grants are going to businesses and destinations in Westmoreland County. Money generated by the five-percent hotel tax in the county is distributed to companies and organizations that draw tourists to the area. A total of 47 hotels, theaters, museums, festivals, and other operations got payouts of up to 20-thousand dollars each. The grants are managed by the Go Laurel Highlands organization, the group that promotes tourism in Westmoreland, Fayette, and Somerset counties.
