Ligonier Borough and Ligonier Township have both declared a state of emergency due to a lack of road salt. The Trib reports that the declaration was similar to the one Jeannette put in place earlier this year. The three municipalities are contracted to use Compass Minerals under the state’s cooperative purchasing program. The declarations allow the municipalities to seek salt elsewhere. Jeannette’s declaration led to an agreement with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to get salt from PennDOT if necessary.
