Westmoreland County voters will elect a new register of wills this year, and that person will serve an abbreviated term of office. The Trib reports that 43-year-old John Wian was recently appointed by Governor Josh Shapiro to fill the top position in the office for the next 11 months. After that, there’s an unexpired term of two years left by the forced resignation of Sherry Hamilton over allegations of office mismanagement that lead to staffing shortages and filing delays. That term will be filled through an election this year, and after that, it will be up for a four-year term in 2027.
