An expanded program offered by Sage’s Army will offer free rides home for inmates upon their release. The Trib reports that the expansion was announced yesterday at the county Prison Board meeting. This is in response to concerns raised by residents around the county jail in Hempfield, who say inmates released in the early evening hours regularly walk along Route 119 in South Greensburg, Youngwood and other locations. The program will be funded through federal and state grants, and an additional $182,000 from the county’s portion of Pennsylvania’s $2.2 billion settlement with drug manufacturers and distributors.
