Officials say mine subsidence is to blame for a sinkhole in Monessen that has prompted a local emergency disaster declaration. WTAE-TV reports that the sinkhole developed on State Road between the intersections with Pennsylvania Avenue and Route 906. The hole measured around 10 feet by 15 feet on the surface and around 12 to 15 feet deep. Efforts are underway to repair and stabilize the site with DEP, private sector construction vendors, and city of Monessen street personnel.
