Four Hempfield fire departments are taking steps to dissolve their charters and move towards township management. The Trib reports that the Carbon and Hempfield #2 fire companies announced their intent to do so in June, with approval of that first step expected for Monday. Grapeville fire department will also be on the agenda for approval of the township’s acquisition agreement with it. Midway-St. Clair next month will complete the final step, formally dissolving its charter through a Common Pleas Court hearing under Judge Harry Smail Jr. on Aug. 22.
