About two dozen Donegal area residents asked state environmental regulators yesterday to reject an application for another coal mine that would sit next to an existing one. The Trib reports that mining officials from the Department of Environmental Protection heard from these residents at a public hearing concerning a request from LCT Energy LP of Johnstown. They want to open Rustic Ridge Mine number 2 underneath the bout 2,300 acres of land in Donegal and Mt. Pleasant townships. That mine would be adjacent to Rustic Ridge Mine No. 1, which is in Donegal and Saltlick townships. Those against the mine say the previous mine has caused subsidence damage, lost water supply, traffic, stream pollution. DEP officials say no decision has been made on the new mine, and their comments will be taken into consideration.
