PUBLIC HEARING TOMORROW FOR PROPOSED SOLAR FARM IN DERRY TOWNSHIP

A public hearing is set for tomorrow concerning the proposed Weimer solar farm in Derry Township.  The Trib reports that the hearing will follow the regular 5:00 PM voting meeting at the municipal building on Tuesday.  Not everyone is happy with this as a change.org petition was started by a neighbor against the solar farm plans for Newhouse Road.  The petition cites concerns about the loss of farmland and potential negative impact on community aesthetics, surrounding property values, wildlife and other environmental resources — including nearby Loyalhanna Creek.If the supervisors decide to deny the required permit for the solar farm, the applicant would have 30 days to file an appeal in Westmoreland County Court.
