Plum Middle School is on “fire watch” right now as the district waits on a new water pump for the building’s sprinkler system. Custodians and maintenance workers are paying close attention to all of the mechanical equipment in the school and actively checking for fire hazards until a repair can be made. Superintendent Rick Walsh says the old pump did not provide enough water pressure to pass an inspection this year, so a new one has been ordered and will likely be installed in November. The district will use grant money that was leftover after renovations at the middle school came in under budget to have the pump replaced.
