DERRY TOWNSHIP WOMAN ACCUSED OF FAKING HUSBAND’S DEATH

A Derry Township woman is accused of faking her husband’s death to try to get out of a contract for a metal garage to be built at her home.  The Trib reports that 54-year-old Lori L. Shawley is charged with felony forgery and attempted theft by deception.  A county detective said that he was contacted by the coroner’s office last week and provided with a fake death certificate for Shawley’s husband, but the same day, the detective had talked with him.  She reportedly tried to use the forged death certificate to get a refund on a non-refundable down payment to help pay for her husband’s funeral expenses.  She is expected to surrender to authorities today.
