An animal rights group is trying to get the elephants removed from the Pittsburgh Zoo. The Washington, D.C.-based Nonhuman Rights Project filed a lawsuit in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court yesterday. They argue the space at the zoo is “grossly inadequate” for the five elephants kept there and they should be moved to a sanctuary or re-introduced into the wild. Last week, zoo leaders announced plans to improve care and herd dynamics by moving two of the elephants to their conservation center in Somerset County.
