Pennsylvania residents are being reminded that the fall is a good time to clean bird feeders. The Pennsylvania Game Commission says that cleaning bird feeders in the fall aids in cutting down on the spread of avian disease, or bird flu. This comes as birds become more reliant on bird feeders in the fall and winter. Bird feeders can be cleaned by being soaked in warm, soapy water and then scrubbed by using a one part bleach to nine parts water solution. For hummingbird feeders, replace the bleach with vinegar.
