A Mt. Pleasant man awaiting trial at the Westmoreland County Prison has been granted access to some kosher food necessary for his religious beliefs. The Trib reports that 47-year-old Kort Eckman faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated and simple assault and reckless endangerment for the attempted stabbing of his mother in 2023. His attorney said while Eckman has received some Kosher meals, he’s having a hard time getting them all the time and was hospitalized for malnutrition. A Rabbi was allowed in to teach the kitchen staff how to make sure he receives kosher food, and since then, his health has improved. The case against him is pending.
