On Friday, Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge Michael Stewart II ruled a theft case against the former county purchasing director will head to trial. The Trib reports that Judge Stewart on Friday rejected a defense attorney request to dismiss the case against Kristopher Cardiff Prosecutors contend he was behind a yearlong payroll scheme to misappropriate $9,800 of unapproved overtime payments. Cardiff has claimed the county commissioners signed off through a backdoor deal for Cardiff, a deputy and his four person unionized staff to receive additional overtime pay. A date for the trial has not been sent.
