MAN WHO TERRORIZED BELLE VERNON OPTICIAN’S OFFICE IN CUSTODY

A man who went naked to an optician’s office with two knives in North Belle Vernon is in custody.  The Trib reports that 54-year-old Darnell Westley Howell, Sr. is charged with indecent exposure, aggravated assault, public drunkenness and other crimes for the incident on Monday.  Police said that he went in and knocked over several display cases and stabbed a couch and the walls at the Check Eye Group office.  Police eventually apprehended him after he tried to go into businesses and parked cars on two blocks of Broad Avenue.  He was reportedly in a manic state and swearing profusely.  He is currently in jail on $50,000 bail.  A preliminary hearing is set for February 16th.
