Officials with the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County say the extreme cold over the last month resulted in hundreds of water line breaks, on top of freezing pipes and leaks. The Trib reports that January saw 265 main line leaks and more than 500 calls from customers seeking help for frozen pipes, and a 60% increase in water main breaks from January 2025. Weather-related repairs is likely to exceed $100,000 in costs.
