A former South Greensburg fire chief will be evaluated by a psychiatrist as he awaits the outcome of a felony theft case. The Trib reports that the request for Matthew White of Hempfield came from his defense attorney and shows that he needs a forensic evaluation to determine his mental health status, diagnosis and a treatment plan. White was charged in February of taking $170,000 from the South Greensburg Fire Department. Police took him into custody in South Carolina and he was extradited back to Pennsylvania. White’s preliminary hearing was held on Tuesday and he is being held in Westmoreland County Prison without Bail. The motion for forensic evaluation indicated White “may be suffering from a mental health disorder or disorders, including but not limited to a gambling-related addiction.”
