An inspection from the State Department of Environmental Protection is providing light on why dust is blanketing a neighborhood near the border of Indiana and Westmoreland Counties. KDKA-TV reports that those living on Isabella Street on the Westmoreland side of Blairsville noticed that dust from Derry Stone SMT was covering things and they felt the company had not corrected the action. A recent Department of Environmental Protection investigation showed that water sprayers meant to control dust were disconnected due to maintenance issues and multiple trucks were leaving the facility without tarps on. The plant has been shut down until issues are addressed.
