The River Valley School Board last night accepted the retirement of Superintendent Philip Martell. At last night’s meeting, board president Rick Harper said that Martell’s decisions were rooted in a students first mentality. Martell will step down after six years of service as the district’s superintendent. He previously served the district as the business manager consultant from May to June of 2020, and was a key part of the foundation of the district’s STEAM academy in 2024 and has earned multiple state and national recognitions. Once a retirement package has been finalized, the board will work on finding a new superintendent.
