Westmoreland County Democrats held a rally yesterday in front of the county courthouse to lobby for a plan to install mail-in ballot drop boxes. The Trib reports that Republican commissioners dropped the program in 2024 saying that the program was seldom used by voters and not worth the cost to staff. Democrats claimed the refusal of Commissioners Sean Kertes and Doug Chew was an intentional political act designed to limit voting and continue partisan opposition to mail-in ballots. The drop box issue could again be considered next week. Commissioners will conduct a public elections board meeting at 1 p.m. April 14 at the courthouse and convene another public meeting at 10 a.m. April 16 to consider general county business.
