Police said that a Sewickley Township man tried to elude officers by swimming across the Youghiogheny River on Monday. The Trib reports that 68-year-old Robert Mayfield is charged with resisting arrest, terroristic threats, criminal mischief and other crimes connected with an incident on Monday on First Street. Police say he reportedly damaged a boat tire, hid from authorities, then swam the river and hid in a wooded area to elude capture. Police used a helicopter and fire department crews to find him. Mayfield is in jail on $5000 bail with a preliminary hearing set for May 11th.
