Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon are among The New York Times Magazine’s new list of the 30 greatest living American songwriters.
According to the outlet, the list was based on feedback from over 250 music insiders and six New York Times critics. The magazine says Springsteen has “continued to believe in songswriting as a tool to hold his bruised, beloved country accountable,” while Simon is described as “musically voracious, an almost obscenely gifted crafter of melodies and chord progressions.” For Dylan, they say he’s the “greatest songwriter of them all” and has “pushed back the horizons of popular music.”
Other songwriters included on the list are Jay-Z, Lana Del Rey, Mariah Carey, Fiona Apple, and Taylor Swift.
