The family of a woman who died after falling in a sinkhole in Unity in late 2024 has filed a lawsuit against US Steel Corporation and the restaurant where the sinkhole formed. The Trib reports that Kenneth Pollard filed the suit in Westmoreland County Court. He is the husband of Elizabeth who died when the ground opened underneath her on the property of Monday’s Union Restaurant on December 2nd of 2024. US Steel acquired the Marguerite Mine in 1901, and the restaurant was on top of that mine. The lawsuit states those being sued were negligent in their upkeep in the now-abandoned mine. The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount of monetary damages, to be determined at a trial.
