A child abuse specialist told a Westmoreland County jury that the injuries suffered by a 5-year-old boy amounted to torture, according to the Tribune Review. Dr. Michelle Clayton testified the child had dozens of bruises, a catastrophic brain injury, and signs of prolonged abuse and neglect before his death in February 2023. Prosecutors say the boy’s adoptive parents were responsible, while the defense argues the injuries were accidental. Clayton told jurors the wounds could not be explained by falls or clumsiness, calling them inflicted and part of a pattern of abuse. Testimony in the trial is expected to continue.
