The Murrysville Police Department is starting a bike patrol along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail after a woman reported a sexual assault in the area this month. The department was already looking into adding bicycle officers, but the attack prompted officials to move ahead with the plans sooner. State grant funding is helping to pay for equipment and training, with additional investments from the Murrysville City Council. Chief Tom Kusinsky says the bike patrol will remain year-round.
