Short-term rental platform AirBNB is using artificial intelligence to help put a stop to Fourth of July parties. Company officials say bookings that are made for the holiday weekend are being analyzed to check for risk factors such as the length of the stay and the distance of the rental from the user’s address. If the AI system finds that a booking may be problematic it will redirect users away from whole-home listings to other options like private rooms and hotels. AirBNB banned parties on the platform in 2020. Some users have still managed to book rentals for parties, though, like the one in Pittsburgh’s East Allegheny neighborhood where two teens were killed after gunfire erupted on Easter morning of 2022. That shooting remains unsolved.
