Grocery chain Kroger has announced it has acquired Giant Eagle for $1.65 billion. The announcement from Kroger said that $1.25 billion will be in cash consideration with the rest in outstanding liabilities. Kroger has 1200 stores across 16 states, primarily in the south and midwest. Kroger plans on retaining the Giant Eagle brand and they do not expect any reduction in front line jobs. The sale is expected to close in 2027.
