In 1965 Bob Dylan released the single “Like A Rolling Stone,” which became his first major hit.
In 1975 Steve Van Zandt officially joined Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band at a show in Providence, Rhode Island. The concert at the Palace Theatre opened the “Born to Run” tour.
In 2004 Peter Frampton filed a lawsuit against Billabong after images of his face and the phrase “Baby, I love your waves” began appearing on the company’s swimsuits and surf wear.
In 2006 Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst announced that he and girlfriend Krista Salvatore were engaged. The two just met two months earlier.
In 2007 Korn launched the Family Values Tour 2007, which also featured Evanescence, Atreuy, Flyleaf, Hellyeah, and Trivium.
In 2008 Paul McCartney made his concert debut in Quebec City, Quebec with a free concert in conjunction with the celebrations honoring the Canadian city’s 400th anniversary.
Buddy Guy was the first recipient of the Great Performer of Illinois Award, acknowledging his tremendous contributions to music and American culture. The honor included a tribute performance from Jimmie Vaughan with his Tilt A Whirl Band. The presentation capped off the three-day Great Performers of Illinois Festival at Chicago’s Millennium Park.
In 2009 A special EP edition of David Bowie’s 1969 classic “Space Oddity” was released in celebration of the 40th anniversary of astronaut Neil Armstrong’s moon walk.
In 2011 Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson received an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Queen Mary University in London. The singer had earned a history degree from the school in 1979.
In 2017 Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington died at the age of 41.
In 2019 “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen became the first music video released prior to 1990 to receive one billion plays on YouTube. The song hit top ten in 1976 and then reached number two in 1992 thanks to the movie “Wayne’s World.”
