David Rivkin, a.k.a David Z, a Grammy-winning producer, is dead at 78.
He passed away on Sunday at a hospital in Burbank, California, due to complications from an infection. David Z played a role in launching singer Prince’s career by producing his early demo recordings and engineering some of his early albums. He’s also known for working on Lipps Inc.’s “Funkytown,” and Fine Young Canniabal’s “She Drives Me Crazy.”
Throughout his career, David Z also collaborated with a long list of artists, including Etta Jones, Buddy Guy, Honny Lang, and AL Green, among others.
