Next year will be the final year for a benefit motorcycle ride in honor of a New Kensington police officer killed in the line of duty. The Trib reports that organizers said that 2027’s Officer Brian Shaw memorial ride will be the final one, marking the 10th anniversary since his passing, Roughly 400 people took part in this year’s run. Proceeds go to a scholarship fund that provides two $7,000 scholarships each year for cadets at the Allegheny County Police Academy, covering tuition and the cost of a firearm and bulletproof vest. Officials say they’ve raised over $300,000 from the annual ride, and through investments and interest earnings, they will be able to continue to provide scholarships without the ride.
